Life is a Journey...

Every now and then it is good to take a break from the daily grind and do something creative just for yourself.  I have found that getting away from things I "have" to do and adding a few things I "want" to do can make all the difference in keeping myself motivated and inspired.  I have seen so many great photographs, great poses, great locations, and great styling that I just had to put them to good use.  This shoot was totally for fun.  Totally for our own enjoyment, and totally to be creative.
About a month ago I met with a few young ladies that I knew from my time with the dance team.  They have started journeying through the uncertainty that is college life and I knew they would be open to playing around in front of the camera for me.  These three ladies are best friends and even recently got coordinating tattoos!  They are very supportive of one another and their friendship shines through in these images.
We had a few meetings to prepare the wardrobe and location.  The girls got ready at my house and my front room looked like what I envision the wardrobe closet at a major fashion magazine looks like.  (Ugly Betty + Devil Wears Prada + Charlotte Russe = my own youthful editorial fashion fantasy).  Here are a few of my favorite shots of the day.  These ladies did such a great job, I hope everyone enjoys the images.

Natasha {Avon Class of 2012 Senior}

Imagine preparing for your high school graduation, exploring what college to attend, planning for prom and finishing up those final high school credits.  Now imagine doing that in a new town, a new state, completely different from where you grew up.  Natasha has done just that.  She moved to Indiana to start her junior year of high school.  She has adjusted very well and made great new friends on the dance team and through out Avon.  I was so excited to shoot her senior photos.  She wanted to make sure that we included some shots of the Indianapolis skyline, and some in her dance tutu.  I was happy to oblige.  We met about a month before her session to plan what to wear and where to shoot.  We settled on some park space near Avon, as well as the White River State Park downtown.  Congratulations Natasha on your upcoming graduation!  Here are just a few of her gorgeous shots to celebrate the class of 2012!!

A little R & R

Will and I have not been on a full week long vacation since our honeymoon... nearly 5 years ago.  So I counted this as a vacation / anniversary.  This week I took off with my husband and his family to Florida.  It's been great getting to hang out together, lay on the beach, sleep in, and play.  All of the things you'd expect from a vacation.  Of course I brought the camera along and have snapped some photos along the way.  The beach poses a whole other set of challenges when it comes to photography.  Not the least of which is managing all the sand.  Here's a few of my favorites from the first half of the week.  I'm sure there will be more to come.  For now, here's a sneak peek.

Ladybugs and Grass Seed

Spring has sprung on the Pfaffenberger homestead - what little of it there is.  Recently I have spent too much time cooped up indoors.  So today I forced myself to grab my camera and see what I could find outside - despite the clouds left from the morning storm.  Our neighbors have cute little dogwood trees - at least I think that's what they are. I found some nice new buds opening up across the street.  My husband planted grass seed a little over a week ago in the patches that our dog likes to dig up, so he was excited to see the new blades of grass popping up today after our overnight rain.
I always enjoy how photography forces one to be patient - wait for the wind to stop blowing.  And to be more observant - can you spot the little creature in the photo?  I wouldn't have known that ladybug was there if I wasn't taking the time to shoot today.   Nature photography always makes me wish I had a macro lens.
