Oh My Gosh!!

Oh my gosh guys, really?  It's been over a month since my last blog post?  Shameful!  Well, hopefully I have a good excuse.  I have been super busy!  The beginning of July was a whirlwind.
We closed on our new home, hopefully something we'll be in forever.  We love it, but it is going to take some work to make it cozy.  A few days later I had 2 weddings on my photography schedule.  Those will be posted soon, I promise.  Danielle & Bryce, and Cathy & Eric were great to work with.  Oh yes, and Tommy one of my seniors.  Then there is all of the craziness that comes with moving, packing, and getting into a new house.  There are always surprises which have to be addressed.  The new sprinkler system didn't work, our new (to us) alarm system would randomly beep when nothing was wrong, our water heater and water softener had to be replaced.  I held a good old fashioned garage sale with my mom and sister to get rid of all the stuff from the move.  My parents dog passed away.  He was my childhood dog growing up, he was almost 17 years old! He had been around through the bad hair days of middle school, and my sister getting glasses and losing teeth.  That was tough :(  Will and I had our wedding anniversary on July 29th which was nice, but since we bought each other this new house, we decided on a low key 5 year celebration, just dinner and some quality time.   Quality time has been scarce with all of these changes around here.  My husband has proven himself nearly invincible with all of the things he is taking on!  He nearly single handedly moved the contents of our house from one place to another.  He still gets up at 4:00am every day, and then comes home and works at a second job.  He still finds time to organize his improv comedy's new show opening at the Indy Fringe festival next weekend, and to coordinate the Smiley Glee Club.  Oh yeah, and he re-plumbed the water softener, mowed the grass, carried lots of heavy stuff up the stairs, assembled all the furniture, installed towel racks and hooks... the list goes on and on.  I am so blessed to have him in my life.  He puts me to shame with his level of dedication and work ethic.  I'm glad that we are doing all of this together.  I honestly don't think we've had an empty weekend since sometime in May or June, but luckily we've been together during most of it all. I also have to give a huge shout out to my in-laws.  They have come to our aid, helping move boxes, clean house, clear out limbs and weeds, lend us the truck.  It's great to be closer to family.  I think the craziness has started to subside and I can concentrate more on business... and blogging.  Thanks for hanging with me.  Check back soon for more posts as I play catch up.

Chris + Amber

So the story goes that Chris and Amber were introduced at a Decemberist's concert.  They were introduced by a friend and their story blossomed from there.  The creativity and uniqueness of this couple was apparent in every aspect of their wedding.  According to their program, "For the decorations we folded cranes because in Japan, it is commonly said that folding 1000 paper origami cranes makes a person's wish come true.  The crane in Japan is one of the mystical creatures that is said to live for a thousand years."  They had custom printed invitations by a friend, a custom ice sculpture incorporating the cranes, also by a friend.  And a toast incorporating their love story through clay sculpture.  I was very glad to be asked to help photograph this day.  Thanks to Megan Bryant Photography for allowing me to assist her with this wedding.  Check out her blog for the official pictures from the day!

Sea Side with the Richman Family

Another post from Florida.  Below is the beautiful Richman family.  Luckily I get to call these people my  In-laws, and my niece and nephew.  Katie is Will's sister.  The other interesting thing about this family is that Sam was born the same summer that Will and I started dating, and Jenn was born the same summer that Will and I got married, so we can always remember ages and anniversaries!  We couldn't leave the beach without a family photo session.  Enjoy the sneak peeks!

A little R & R

Will and I have not been on a full week long vacation since our honeymoon... nearly 5 years ago.  So I counted this as a vacation / anniversary.  This week I took off with my husband and his family to Florida.  It's been great getting to hang out together, lay on the beach, sleep in, and play.  All of the things you'd expect from a vacation.  Of course I brought the camera along and have snapped some photos along the way.  The beach poses a whole other set of challenges when it comes to photography.  Not the least of which is managing all the sand.  Here's a few of my favorites from the first half of the week.  I'm sure there will be more to come.  For now, here's a sneak peek.

"The Rite of Spring"

Spring is a time for rites of passage for many people in all phases of life - namely Graduation.  For this photo endeavor, I photographed the final dance recital for the Avon High School dance department.  It is also the final dance recital for these senior dancers.  Some will go on to dance again, some will go on to other paths in life.  I have spent pretty much the entire week working on these photographs of these dancers.  We did a special shoot Friday afternoon for some of the Company members also.  I continue to strive to capture the strength, athleticism, emotion and technique that these dancers possess.  I hope to continue to improve my ability as a photographer to capture these beautiful images.  Below are just a few of the images of the week.  To see the entire recital gallery, CLICK HERE

Second Shooting 101

Last week I got a surprising email from Pete Nagy of Peter Jonathan Images that he was looking for an assistant for a wedding on Friday.  Of course I have been hoping for some second shooting opportunities so I jumped at the opportunity!  I had nothing to wear, so I went to every store in town and finally settled on a tunic dress with leggings so I could still move, yet look wedding appropriate.  I packed my bags, reformatted my cards and I was off.  The day was just about as perfect as it could be for a wedding.  Sunny with just enough clouds to diffuse the sun, and about 75 degrees.  The day went so smoothly, the venue was perfect. Hair and make up done at Salon 2000 on the circle, and the ceremony and reception was all held at the Mavris downtown.  Of course, the bride and groom were stunning and so in love.  Meaghan was fighting back tears at pivotal moments all day long.  This was a great wedding,  great wedding party and family, and a great photographic opportunity for one rookie photographer!  I am so honored to have been trusted with this job, and so happy to have been a part of Meaghan and Chase's big day.  Thanks to Pete for letting me keep my images and posting them here as my own.  Please enjoy the Haller/Klem wedding - from my point of view!
